"The Covid19 Assembly has worked with top doctors, nurses, paramedics and midwives over the past month via their Whistleblowing Service “Speak Out“. The result is an explosive letter to the Government from 133 named signatories from the medical profession.
Each person was given full anonymity until 100 signatures were received.
That was the critical point where everyone was willing to go public with their names.
The current climate means that individuals health professionals are too fearful to come forward with their true opinions for fear of retaliation by the NHS and the GMC.
Standing together in this way affords them some protection to speak out. We thank them and the organisers for taking one more step towards ending the current climate of fear.

133 doctors, nurses, paramedics and midwives have now put their names to an open letter telling The Prime Minister, Health Secretary and First Ministers for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland: “ You have failed to engage in dialogue and show no signs of doing so. You have removed from people fundamental rights and altered the fabric of society with little debate in Parliament. ”
The signatories, from a broad range of specialities, are speaking out despite the risk to both their jobs and reputations.
The letter, originally signed by 10 doctors, was prompted by the growing and widespread disapproval among healthcare professionals of the Government’s pandemic policies, and now calls for proper open and public scientific debate.
Founding signatory Dr Ros Jones commented: “ We wrote the letter as a group of healthcare professionals, connected only by our deep concern and shared commitment to “first do no harm”. We can no longer stand by in silence. We are not the first group of medically and scientifically qualified professionals to write in such terms to the Government. In March, 22 eminent scientists publicly called for drastic policy change. We sincerely hope we will be the last who feel the need to write such a letter".
Founding signatory Dr Alan Mordue commented: “To move forward now our governments urgently need to facilitate a wider and open debate within the medical and scientific community, for the short term as we lift restrictions, and the longer term to improve how we manage winter respiratory viruses and pandemics in the future".
Concerns voiced in the letter include the fact that no Minister responsible for policy has engaged in an open and full discussion of alternative ways of managing the pandemic, despite being aware of other medical and scientific viewpoints.
It goes on to say that the pandemic response policies implemented have caused massive, permanent and unnecessary harm to our nation, and saying such policies must never be repeated.
The letter focuses on 10 areas where the UK’s approach to COVID has failed, including the exaggerated nature of the threat, the inappropriate and unethical use of behavioural science to generate fear, the misunderstanding of asymptomatic spread and its use to promote public compliance with restrictions and an over-reliance on modelling while ignoring real-world data".
The signatories demand a “sea change within the Government which must now pay proper attention to those esteemed experts outside its inner circle who are sounding these alarms".
